The Discreet Bourgeois

Possessed by an urgency to make sure all this stuff I love doesn't just disappear

After one measly season, the brilliant Muppet Show becomes history when ABC decides not to renew it.  The show wasn’t family-friendly enough, they say, and the characters were not in keeping with their historical selves.   Oh, well.  Please see if you can find these episodes somewhere, and revel in the Altman-like complexity of this show. No need to thank me.

  1. Sad news indeed 😦 I really loved watching what I saw of the new Muppet Show. I guess nowadays in the film and television business, it is all about playing it safe as opposed to creating something idiosyncratic for a lack of better word. Your mentioning of Robert Altman and that picture of Kermit and Miss Piggy on stage can’t help but remind me of his crowning achievement Nashville for some odd reason. Yes Nashville has now become my number 1 favorite Altman film 🙂 Anyway, keep up the great work as always 🙂

    • Hi John. Glad you agree with the Nashville spin. The multilayered stories and the huge amount of well-defined characters recall the best of Altman. Oh, well. Guess it wasn’t ‘safe’ enough! Hopefully something will come soon to take its place!

Thanks for visiting. I always look forward to your comments.
